Our guarantee

Our 10-year workmanship guarantee

Every rooflight, skylight, roof window and lantern we fit carries a 10-year workmanship guarantee. This page sets out what our skylight installation guarantee covers, what sits outside it, how to make a claim and how it works alongside the manufacturer's own product warranty.

What the skylight installation guarantee covers

The guarantee covers our workmanship for 10 years from the date the job is completed. If something we did was not done properly and it shows within that time, we come back and put it right at no cost to you.

Our workmanship means the work our team carries out on your house:

  • The installation of the unit: setting it square, fixing it to the structure and fitting it to the manufacturer's instructions
  • The flashing, kerb detail and weathering we install around the unit, including where it meets the tiles, slates or flat-roof covering
  • Any structural work we carry out for the opening, such as trimming rafters or building a kerb
  • The internal finish where we do it, such as the lining, plasterboard and making good around the opening

The manufacturer's warranty is separate

The rooflight or roof window itself comes with the manufacturer's product warranty. That covers the unit: the frame, the sealed glass unit, any motor, sensor or control, and the factory finish. The length and terms are set by the manufacturer and vary between products.

That warranty passes to you. We register the product where the manufacturer asks for it and give you the details at sign-off, so you know who covers what. If a fault turns out to be in the product, we will help you deal with the manufacturer.

What the guarantee does not cover

The guarantee is about the quality of our work. It does not extend to problems that come from somewhere else, including:

  • Faults in the product itself, which fall under the manufacturer's warranty
  • Damage from misuse, or from not following the manufacturer's care and cleaning advice
  • Storm damage, falling branches and other events outside normal conditions
  • Glass broken by an impact
  • Work, alterations or adjustments made to the unit or the roof around it by anyone other than us
  • Wear and tear expected of any product, such as blinds or seals reaching the end of their normal life
  • Problems in parts of the roof or building we did not work on

How to make a claim

Get in touch as soon as you notice a problem. Email info@ridgewayskylightsswindon.co.uk or send a WhatsApp message to 07880 284133 with your name, address, a short description and a few photos, inside and out if you can.

We will look at what you send, reply to confirm we have it and arrange a visit to see the problem in person. If the cause is our workmanship, we put it right under the guarantee. If it turns out to be the product, we explain why and help with the manufacturer's claim. If it is neither, we tell you what we found.

Keeping your paperwork

At sign-off you receive the written job plan, the completion date that starts the guarantee, the manufacturer's warranty details and, where the work was notifiable, the Building Control completion paperwork. Keep them together. They make a claim quicker and they answer the questions a buyer's solicitor will ask if you sell.

If you sell the house

If you are selling and want to know whether the guarantee can pass to the new owner, ask us. Send the address and the completion date and we will confirm the position in writing for your solicitor.

Your statutory rights

The guarantee is in addition to your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, which requires services to be carried out with reasonable care and skill. Nothing on this page reduces those rights. Our terms and conditions and complaints procedure set out the rest. To start a job, use the free quote form.
