Privacy Policy

This privacy policy explains what personal information Ridgeway Skylights Swindon collects when you use this website or ask us for a quote, why we collect it, how long we keep it and the rights you have under UK data protection law.

Who we are

Ridgeway Skylights Swindon ("Ridgeway Skylights", "we", "us") is the controller of the personal information described here. We have no public premises: we visit customers at home for surveys and installation work.

For anything about your personal information, the address to use is info@ridgewayskylightsswindon.co.uk. For a quick question, WhatsApp 07880 284133 works too.

What we collect

We collect only what we need to answer your enquiry and carry out the work. That can include:

  • Your name, email address and phone number
  • The address of the property, so we can check the planning authority and visit for a survey
  • Details of the job you describe, and any photos you choose to send
  • Messages between us by email or WhatsApp
  • For customers who go ahead: the written quote, job plan, invoices, payment records, Building Control paperwork and guarantee records

The enquiry form

The enquiry form on this website is provided by a third-party form service, embedded in the page. When you submit it, the details you enter are sent to that service, which stores them and passes them to us. The service acts as our processor: it handles your details on our instructions and for no other purpose.

If you would prefer not to use the form, you can email us or contact us on WhatsApp instead. WhatsApp is operated by WhatsApp Ireland Limited (part of Meta), and its own privacy policy applies to messages sent through it.

Why we use it and our lawful basis

UK GDPR requires a lawful basis for each use of personal information. Ours are:

  • Steps before a contract, and the contract itself: answering your enquiry, arranging the survey, preparing the quote and job plan, and carrying out the work you agree to
  • Legal obligation: keeping financial records for tax, and records connected with Building Control notifications
  • Legitimate interests: handling guarantee claims, responding to complaints and defending legal claims, where our interest is not outweighed by your rights

Who we share it with

We do not sell your information or use it for marketing lists. We share it only where the job needs it: with the enquiry form provider, with email and messaging providers, with the Building Control body (the local authority or a registered building control approver) for notifiable work, with the manufacturer when registering a product warranty, with our accountant, and where the law requires it.

Some of these providers may store data outside the UK. Where that happens, we rely on the safeguards UK data protection law requires, such as UK adequacy regulations or approved contract terms.

How long we keep it

If you enquire but do not go ahead, we keep your enquiry for 12 months from our last contact and then delete it.

If you become a customer, we keep the job records for the 10-year guarantee period plus six years after it ends, so we can deal with guarantee claims and legal questions. Financial records are kept for at least six years, as tax law requires.

We review these periods regularly and will update this policy if they change.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to:

  • Ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you
  • Ask us to correct information that is wrong or incomplete
  • Ask us to delete your information, where we have no need or legal duty to keep it
  • Ask us to restrict how we use it, or object to a use based on legitimate interests
  • Ask for information you gave us in a portable format, where the law allows

Using your rights

To use any of these rights, email info@ridgewayskylightsswindon.co.uk. We may ask you to confirm who you are. We reply within one month, and there is normally no charge.

Complaints to the ICO

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal information, please tell us first so we can try to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK regulator for data protection, at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

Cookies and similar technology are covered in our cookie policy.

Changes to this policy

We will update this policy when our practices or the law change, and post the new version on this page.
